Personally, I've had an ongoing relationship with one-hour dramas since I first stumbled upon [and then later became obsessed with] Charmed . Under the title of TV talk, I hope to share my opinions, excitement, and confusion about the shows I have randomly seen or loyally watch. Hope you enjoy!
This first TV Talk post will be about Rizzoli & Isles, its Season 2 Premiere being tonight on TNT. Playing Detective Jane Rizzoli is Angie Harmon, who was also on Women's Murder Club of which I was a fan, and Sasha Alexander, best known for her role on NCIS, plays Dr. Maura Isles. I love that TNT is know bringing the women to the forefront as opposed to the come-to-expected men of detective and police dramas. It's good to have representations of intelligent, strong women following their instincts because it does contribute to empowering young women.
Another great thing about the show is the chemistry between the two women but also how we see Rizzoli interact with criminals, other co-workers and her family. As strong as she is as a detective, she seems to always be her parents' baby girl as most of their conversations include her being defensive. I personally love the relationship she has with her brother, who is a police officer on the show.
My favorite part about Maura is how as classy and intelligent as she is, she never seems to get it in social situations. Her OCD and awkward reactions keep her from getting truly close to many people although she is very attractive and impressive. It kind of reminds me of Temperance Brennan of Bones.
